ChatGPT Gains Access to Yelp Reviews and Photos

ChatGPT can now answer local queries with Yelp data — reviews, ratings, photos and even a button to request a quote from a nearby business. The two companies struck a deal: Yelp licenses its content to OpenAI, and recommendations now surface in real time right inside the chat.
Axios reported the agreement on July 23, 2026; the financial terms weren't disclosed. But money isn't the point: local search has always been ChatGPT's weak spot — it has no review base of its own and couldn't answer "where should I eat nearby" well.
- ChatGPT responses now include Yelp reviews, ratings, photos and business details;
- the Request a Quote feature works — you can ask for an estimate or book without leaving the chat;
- content carries Yelp branding and links, but OpenAI decides how it's shown.
Yelp already feeds data to Yahoo+ and Apple Maps, and the new agreement lets it license content to other AI platforms too. Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman says the company "sees value in distributing its content beyond its own properties when it benefits consumers," as Search Engine Land reports.
What it means. For local businesses, ChatGPT becomes another channel where customers find you — but the only way in is through Yelp. Your profile matters again: complete data, fresh reviews, quality photos. For the market it's a signal — AI search increasingly leans on third-party verified databases, and presence in them is becoming part of SEO strategy, not a nice-to-have.
