Search Console AI reports go global

Publication date: 06.09.2026

As of August 31, 2026 Search Console's AI reports are open worldwide, after a limited rollout. Inside: impressions from AI Overviews, AI Mode and generative features in Discover, broken down by page, country and date. One caveat — not every property sees the data. Sites with few AI impressions may find the report simply absent.

The other half of the week belongs to John Mueller, who closed three questions in a row. On recovery after broad core updates he repeated the uncomfortable part: fixes «can take quite some time – sometimes many months – until you see the effects». He added that a disavow file moves link data over months rather than days, and that technical issues should be ruled out before blaming rejected links for a drop.

Two more remarks that save other people's budgets come via Search Engine Journal in the latest SEO Pulse:

  • Markdown for AI crawlers. From Mueller's own test sites, «the only crawlers who claim to accept markdown are SEO tools». His advice: log the Accept header and see who actually asks for it before building the infrastructure.
  • Sitemap cache-busting. Rotating a parameter in sitemap URLs daily is «a bad idea because you're signaling that the canonical URL for a piece of content should be constantly changing». The protocol already has lastmod for «what changed».

What to do this week:

  • open the AI impressions report in Search Console and check which pages pull you into AI surfaces — no data means your volume is still below the threshold;
  • compare your AI leaders with your classic organic leaders: the gap shows which content format gets cited;
  • log the Accept header on your server before putting markdown page versions into a sprint;
  • strip rotating parameters from sitemap URLs and keep an accurate lastmod;
  • if you are waiting out a core update, plan in months and clear technical debt in parallel, not just links.
