Restaurant Bookings Now Live in ChatGPT

Publication date: 11.08.2026

Before, you asked ChatGPT where to eat, got a Yelp-powered shortlist with reviews and photos — and then left for a third-party site to book. Now it's different: on August 10, 2026 Yelp built reservations and waitlists straight into the ChatGPT conversation. You can pick a restaurant, reserve a table or join the waitlist without leaving the chat.

The feature covers thousands of restaurants across the U.S. and Canada — those running Yelp Guest Manager. Discovery still flows through the familiar Yelp integration: ratings, reviews, photos and business details surface right in the assistant's reply, and after booking you manage the reservation on Yelp. The launch was reported by Search Engine Land. Context worth noting: Yelp data already powers Apple Maps, Alexa+, Bing, DuckDuckGo and Yahoo — the company is turning into infrastructure for AI search, not just a traffic source for its own site.

What changes for local businesses:

  • the decision point moves into the chat — people book at the moment of choice, not after a click to your site;
  • your Yelp listing matters again: rating, fresh reviews and photos decide whether the assistant surfaces you;
  • enabling Yelp Guest Manager shifts from "nice to have" to "must have" for restaurants that want AI-driven demand;
  • visibility inside AI answers is the new local SEO — optimize the profile to be cited, not only to rank.

The trend is clear: the transaction is moving inside the assistant. Whoever cleans up their presence in the aggregators that feed AI will capture the bookings while competitors still wait for a click.
