Google's First Dedicated YouTube Audio Ads Guide

YouTube advertising just got its own manual: Google has published its first standalone help page dedicated to audio ads on YouTube and YouTube Music. Until now these details lived scattered across broader documentation — campaign setup, creative specs and best practices are finally in one place.
The format targets «listening-first» moments: when someone puts YouTube Music on in the background and isn't looking at the screen, a regular video won't reach them, but audio will. As Search Engine Land reports, the guide went live on July 31 and signals that Google is pushing its audio inventory harder as an alternative to crowded video placements. The mechanics are simple, but the details decide whether your campaign runs the way you expect.
What to sort out before you launch:
- length is the switch: a creative up to 15 seconds serves as a non-skippable ad, while 16–30 seconds becomes skippable;
- you still upload a YouTube video as the asset, but keep the visuals minimal — a static image or a light animation is what Google recommends;
- build the campaign on the «Brand awareness and reach» objective with the Audio subtype, and bid on Target CPM.
Put together a short audio spot and a clean branded still, set a reach goal, dial in your target CPM, and test it against people who stream music and podcasts. Then judge the result by reach and frequency, not clicks — audio works on a different logic, and measuring it by video views means looking at the wrong numbers.
