Hotel booking in AI Mode: checkout closes in Google Pay

Publication date: 27.08.2026

The money now changes hands without ever leaving Google. Hotel booking has gone live in AI Mode: a user describes the trip, sees a shortlist with reviews and prices, picks a room type, reads the cancellation policy — and pays through Google Pay in a «Continue on Google» flow. The hotel's or the aggregator's own site never has to open.

The launch roster is substantial: on the platform side Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Priceline and Trip.com, on the chain side Choice Hotels, Hilton, IHG, Marriott and Wyndham. For now the feature is reaching English-speaking users in the US. Alongside it, flight price alerts with email notifications and prices shown in points and miles are live too, with Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and American Airlines among the first partners. Search Engine Journal lists the partners and markets.

What this rewrites in the economics:

  • Google closes a travel transaction itself for the first time instead of handing it off on a click;
  • acquisition cost shifts: you pay for a slot in the shortlist, not for a click to your site;
  • direct hotel bookings no longer compete with OTAs but with an interface where the OTA and the chain sit side by side;
  • analytics dims — part of the customer journey stays inside Google.

For a budget it comes down to simple arithmetic. Every transaction closed on Google's side is a booking you did not pay an aggregator commission on — and also one that leaves you no email and no repeat sale. In travel, «buy traffic, sell it yourself» starts losing to «be in the inventory the answer is assembled from». The launch does not reach the Ukrainian market directly yet, but it already changes how hotels negotiate with platforms: there is now a third player holding both the storefront and the till.
