A bug in Google job search: new listings are missing

Publication date: 04.09.2026

Filtering Google job search to the past 24 hours in New York returns an empty screen — even though the labour market is fine: the August report recorded 162,000 nonfarm payroll additions. So the problem is not a shortage of jobs, it is the search itself.

The issue has been running for about a week. Google job search mostly surfaces older listings, and fresh ones have lost their "x days ago" stamps, which makes it impossible to tell what is actually new. Widening the window to three days returns only a handful of results. Barry Schwartz documented the symptoms at Search Engine Roundtable, citing an r/jobsearchhacks thread where job seekers describe the same thing: "Over the last few days, it appears that no new jobs are being generated."

What is known so far:

  • the glitch hits regions unevenly — New York draws more complaints, while London results look healthier;
  • some listings have no posting date at all, which breaks the time filters;
  • a similar date-filter problem appeared in August in regular Search and in Google News, so this may be a continuation;
  • Google has not commented publicly on the situation.

For employers and job boards this is a direct risk: job cards are technically indexed but never reach the candidate, and a drop in applications is easy to blame on seasonality or on your own markup mistakes. While Google stays quiet, make sure the problem is not on your side.

What to do right now:

  • open the job postings report in Search Console and review statuses, errors and warnings;
  • confirm that datePosted and validThrough carry correct values in your markup;
  • run a few fresh URLs through the rich results test;
  • compare two weeks of impressions for job pages to separate the bug from a seasonal dip;
  • lean harder on other hiring channels for now — newsletters, social, your own careers section.
