What Chrome actually measures

None of it is manually tagged: Chrome identifies ads through network-level filtering and script analysis, samples the viewport once per second for count and density, and accumulates network and CPU usage across the whole session — the reported figure is the 75th percentile.
Who has already signed on
Independent ad platforms get CrUX data at the same time as Google's own advertising businesses — Display & Video 360 backs the initiative. Early supporters include WPP, The Guardian, Mediavine, Index Exchange and Adelaide. Still, the metrics remain labeled experimental, sit outside Core Web Vitals, and Google has not published recommended thresholds or confirmed whether the signals feed into bidding or inventory valuation.
For advertisers buying impressions through programmatic, the value isn't the measurement itself but the fact that a single public quality benchmark for a placement now exists — until now, judging how ad-cluttered a site was meant eyeballing it or reading secondary signals like bounce rate. Ad Weight — CPU should interest buyers specifically: a page where ads alone burn heavy processing time typically shows worse video completion and lower viewability on the rest of its banners, because the browser stalls on rendering.
What this means for business in Ukraine
There's no formal ranking link yet, but there's an informal one already at work. Heavy ad load routinely hurts CLS (layout shift from banners that load late) and INP (click-response delay caused by ad-network scripts) — and those are part of Core Web Vitals, which already affects ranking. So the new metrics don't reveal anything genuinely new, they just make explicit what previously had to be inferred indirectly from page speed and responsiveness.
