Google Ads: Advertisers Listed on Top

Before: the "Sponsored results" block on mobile opened straight into the ads. Now (still in a test): above the ads themselves, Google shows a short list of advertisers — the favicon and domain of each brand you'll meet further down.
The experiment was spotted in mobile search: if a sponsored results group holds two advertisers, their favicons and domain names appear at the top of the block — right under the "Sponsored results" header and above the actual ad cards. It's essentially a table of contents for the ad block: the user sees whose ads are coming before scrolling through them. The test is reported by Search Engine Roundtable, with no official word from Google yet.
What it changes for advertisers:
- your brand and favicon land in view earlier — the top of the block grabs attention;
- a recognizable domain and a clean favicon matter more: a blurry icon is now seen twice;
- sitting side by side in the "contents" makes the fight for the click more transparent;
- this is a test, not a full rollout — many users won't see it.
Check how your domain and favicon look in mobile results: they, not the ad copy, now do the first-touch work. The format may never ship, but the direction is clear — Google is boosting brand recognition inside the ad block, and it pays to be ready ahead of time.
