Bots Are Now 57.5% of Web Traffic

Publication date: 02.08.2026

57.5% — that's the share of web requests generated by machines rather than humans in June 2026. According to Cloudflare data cited by IAB Australia, bots have decisively overtaken real users for the first time — and that shifts the ground under digital advertising.

The picture is unsettling. Of all AI-crawler activity, 52% feeds model training and just 2.6% comes from real, human-triggered requests. AI-agent traffic jumped 45% quarter-on-quarter, to 17.7 billion hits. Meanwhile PPC Land flags a paradox: ad budgets are breaking records — Meta pulled in $59.36B (+27%), Amazon Ads $19.8B, Reddit $762M (+64%). There's more money in the system, yet the quality of the traffic is anything but certain.

What the numbers hide:

  • AI «slop» (generated filler pages) accounts for 1.3–2.4% of programmatic spend, yet grades as premium 70% of the time;
  • that inventory costs more than clean supply — $7.08 versus $6.15 TrueCPM;
  • from August 2, the EU's AI Act Article 50 is in force: failing to label AI content risks fines up to 3% of global turnover.

For advertisers the takeaway is blunt: the usual metrics lie. High viewability and a low share of «bad traffic» on templated domains increasingly signal AI slop, not safety. Vet placements by hand, keep tight allow-lists, and stop trusting automated quality scores blindly — otherwise your budget goes to robots, not buyers.
