ChatGPT Ads: auto bidding, platform picks, view-through

Publication date: 25.08.2026

OpenAI has fitted the ChatGPT ad account with three things that turn it from an experiment into a working media-buying tool: an automated bid strategy, a choice of serving platform, and view-through conversion reporting. Alongside that, the ads product is entering new markets — Brazil and Mexico.

What exactly landed:

  • Maximize results — an automated strategy: you set budget and goal, the system takes bidding from there;
  • Eligible platforms — pick the serving surface: iOS app, Android app or Web, each separately;
  • view-through conversions with a one-day window, available at campaign, ad group and individual ad level;
  • a WorkMagic integration: performance next to your other channels, plus conversion signals through the Conversions API.

The interesting part is view-through. The platform's own wording, quoted by Search Engine Land, is blunt: a view-through conversion is recorded when someone converts within one day of seeing an eligible ad without a qualifying ad click receiving credit. So a layer of results that was previously invisible now shows up in reporting — and with it the old problem: some of those people would have bought anyway. Do not stack those numbers in one column with click conversions.

Platform targeting is not cosmetic either. In-app and web behaviour differ: different use cases, different session length, a different path to purchase. That used to arrive as one lump; now you can switch off a surface that eats budget without returning anything.

From here the trajectory is easy to read. The feature set repeats the road Google Ads and Meta Ads took over years: manual bids first, then automation, then view-based attribution, then partner integrations. ChatGPT Ads is covering it in months. Expect wider geography before year-end — Europe is the logical step after Latin America — more targeting types, and the first agency case studies with real numbers. The practical takeaway for now: put this channel into the 2027 media plan before it opens, not after.
